Playboy christmas ‘88 edition
On the day that we planned a dinner with the five lonely girlfriends and boyfriend, the team phoned us, and we all spoke to our own partners for over 15 minutes. There is a lot to tell!
Today there was a 5 bft wind from the west, and they have used their kites for the first time. They have kited from 11.00 to 15.30, and in half a day they did 21 km; a distance that would take a full normal walking day. Although the first kite experiences didn’t go without a fight (a lot of falling and getting up again). Not everyone in the team is already fully used to the way the kite handles, and with this strong wind it can be very scary to kite so fast.
Another big milestone is that the team reached DYE-2, an old abandoned cold war radiostation from the US army. When they called us tonight, they were actually inside the station. The station was suddenly left when the cold war ended, and all installations where left in place. They are there still to date, even the food is still on the plates in the messroom. A spooky place to walk around…
The boys where especially happy, because they found the playboy christmas edition from 1988… Of course we would like to share this with you to, and therefore: this is the cover of that playboy. Enjoy it team!
They are still having fun, and after such a big milestone as they have reached today, it’s up to the next big one: halfway their journey.
The weather has been quite calm the past week, but as of tomorrow, it will change. Day temperatures of -20, snow and strong wind. Fortunately, it blows in the right direction, but it will be a lot harder than it has been before. So keep wishing them good luck!

Hoi Sanne en de mannen,
De mannen hebben een goed excuus, waarom het kiten nog niet zo goed ging.
Maar was het niet gewoon de playboy die nog in jullie koppies zat?
De volgende keer zal het vast beter gaan.
Dye-2 ziet er erg indrukwekkend uit, uit jullie verhalen halen we dat de binnenkant dat ook was. Zo kom je nog eens iets tegen onderweg.
Is het dus niet alleen maar één witte vlakte.
Fijne tocht verder!
Zo te horen hebben jullie de komende dagen al jullie meegenomen kleding wel nodig.
Is het geen bikiniweer meer!

Ze hebben vannacht ook in het gebouw van DYE-2 geslapen. Lijkt mij heel luguber! Ben benieuwd naar de verhalen. Nog een paar weekjes wachten…

Hallo Ed en de rest van het team,
Alle verhalen van voorbereidingen en van de ijskap lazen al als jongensboek. Als je dan ook nog in gebouwen geraakt, die rechtstreeks uit koude oorlogsactiefilm uit de jaren 80 lijken te komen… Wat een avontuur!
Ik volg jullie op de voet, vanuit het warme Zweden (22 gr en zonnig vandaag!)

Hoi allemaal! Wat een super tocht! Ik kan niet wachten op de verhalen en beelden. Nog even snel doorwandelen! Ed, op de boerderij in Harmelen lopen 3 jonge poesjes rond. Alle bomen lopen uit en er staan weer horden kinderen bij de pony’s. Het is echt lente hier! Nog veel succes en plezier! Liefs, Judy

Hé Jeffrey,
2, 0, -2, -5 graden, het lijkt wel een pleziertocht. Ik zie de hele tijd berichten van een komend koufront, dat maar op zich laat wachten. Word ik nu beduveld met jullie dappere strijd? De foto’s zien er mooi uit. Ik ben benieuwd hoe het kiten bij jou gaat.
Hier dezelfde toestand als altijd, een saaie, duffe boel. (Dat merk je wel weer als je thuis komt) Ik heb vorige week een wandeling met Arnold gemaakt, en een nieuwe dimensie aan ons parcours in het gooi toegevoegd, de hei bij Huizen met daarin een vogelreservaat. (Geen vogel te bekennen) Gisteren liep ik maar weer ens bij de Linge.
